In the beginning of my life, there were many challenges. I was fatherless, I saw many family members sickly with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and the list goes on. I have also been a victim of bullying and molestation. Overcoming these obstacles, however, taught me a lot. It gave me the tenacity to tackle anything in my way, and in hindsight, I learned a lot about myself and about Abba Father. Through this, I grew very fond of mentoring young ladies into adulthood. I wanted to help them mature, not making the same mistakes I made, nor experiencing the same roadblocks. This led me to formulate the non-profit Chosen & Refined. We taught young ladies the importance of making wise choices in their lives. The main goal was to break generational curses that are so prevalent within our communities. We did this by teaching them the importance of abstinence, education, and overall healthy choices for their wellbeing and productive life.
This care and concern I had for the young ladies was an extension of my desire for family and friends to make wise choices. So, it seems that I became somewhat of a “go-to” person for health and wellness. My adoration for natural means of healing the body and for herbs, in general, was instilled in me at a very early age. I can remember my grandmother making tea and bringing it to me when I was under the weather. I was always surrounded by natural remedies, teas, plants, and things of that nature. As I matured into adulthood, I began to research various herbal remedies, including essential oils.
